Edinburgh Military Tattoo

Combine one of the world’s greatest shows with exploring wonderful Scottish scenery. Over the years, the event has grown into a multi-national event with singers, performers and military displays travelling from all round the world to perform at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo as well as the Massed Pipes and Drums of the various British Army regiments and other British performers.

3 Day Break – Itinerary

  • Sunday 14th August 2011– Travel from a local joining point, arriving at our hotel this evening for a two-night stay. D
  • Monday 15th August 2011– Edinburgh and Military Tattoo (included). Free time in the morning, then to Edinburgh. During its history, the city has become neatly divided between the Old Town, huddled under Castle Rock, and the New Town, with its fine Georgian architecture. In the evening, we take our seats for the Edinburgh Military Tattoo (admission included). B
  • Tuesday 16th August 2011 – Gretna Green (included). On our return journey we briefly visit Gretna Green before continuing our journey home. B

5-Day Break – Itinerary

  • Day 1 – Travel by Silver Service coach from a local joining point, arriving at our hotel this evening for a four-night stay. D
  • Day 2 – Stirling and the Trossachs (included). Scenic drive around the beautiful Trossachs followed by free time in Stirling. B,D
  • Day 3 – Edinburgh and Military Tattoo (included). See Day 2 of the 3-day break for description. B
  • Day 4 – Loch Lomond (optional). We visit the ‘bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond, Scotland’s largest loch, long immortalised in verse and song. A picture-postcard view awaits around every corner as we visit some of the pretty villages that dot the shores. B,D
  • Day 5 – Gretna Green (included). On our return journey, we briefly visit Gretna Green. Historically, the first village in Scotland as you cross the border from Carlisle, Gretna Green is long associated with eloping couples. We then continue our journey home. B

    I went to the Edinburgh Military Tattoo many years ago when I was a child. Always loved these military style displays and I’m going to have to make the effort to get back again at some stage.
